There are often conflicts in organizations that are both causes and effects of interpersonal tensions, mistrust and miscommunication. We have worked with organizations as a mediator between individuals as well as between groups in order to constructively resolve conflicts and to enable all parties to attain some of their substantive and symbolic goals. During this process, we first meet with the people involved in order to gain an understanding of the degree and kind of conflict, and then meet with all concerned parties to jointly structure and implement integrative agreements.

Client Example: Two senior managers in a commercial bank had a long-standing dispute that was adversely impacting the performance of their respective departments. By investigating the conflict, it turned out that what at first had seemed to be a personality clash was, in fact, a deeper structural issue that involved the boss to whom they both reported. After several meeting with both managers, we made recommendations to their supervisor--who later clarified their respective roles, thereby greatly reducing the level of conflict between the two managers.
